Pearl Clarene Dicks died in Cody on Oct. 30, 2011. She was 80.
She was born in Deaver on Nov. 17, 1930, the daughter of Clarence L. and Winona Maxwell Webb. She spent her youth living on family farms east of Deaver during the height of the Great Depression. She always said her family had all they needed with what they produced on the farm — and since everyone else lived in similar conditions, she never realized those were hard times.
In 1947, she married Richard Franks and they had a son, Ken Webb Franks. They later divorced and in 1949 she married Emet L. Dicks in Powell, where she would live for the next 54 years. They had three children, Dee Wayne, Cindy Marlene and Hal Trent. Emet adopted her son, Ken, forming a large and supportive extended family.
Pearl spent her adult years as a stay at home mother, keeping a close watch on her family. She, her husband and four children were baptized in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and members of the Powell ward. She enjoyed cooking, staying in touch with family and playing card games. She struggled with health issues for many years, building a home and moving to Cody to be closer to her doctors; she lived there for many years.
She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Wheelwright of North Ogden, Utah; sons Dee (Vicki) Dicks and Hal (Barbara) Dicks of Powell; sisters Ruth Sutton of Casper and Joyce (Bill) Lynn of Powell; sisters-in-law Edith Webb of Basin, Joy Webb of Salt Lake City, Joann Bentz of Powell and Peggy Dicks Watkinn of Wilber, Wash.; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pearl was preceded in death by her mother and father, husband Emet, son Ken, son-in-law Val Wheelwright, brothers Russell and Bob Webb, mother and father-in-law Avis and Jesse Dicks; brothers-in-law Alan Dicks, Paul Sutton and Norman Bentz; and grandchildren Keith Franks and Janie Franks.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, at Crown Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Yellowstone Behavioral Health Foundation, 627 Wyoming Ave., Powell WY 82435 as a lasting tribute to her life.
