Viola M. Christler, 100, of Cody, died on Friday, Sept. 30, 2011.

Viola was born Aug. 11, 1911 in St. Louis, Mo. to Edward and Ora Doyle.

On Dec. 28, 1929, she married Walter Barr in Venice, Ill. To this marriage, two children were born: Darleen and Ray. Viola and Walter later divorced.

In January 1949, she married Marvin Greeno in Denver. They lived in Boulder, Colo., for more than 20 years. She managed a hot lunch program in the school system for several years. After Marvin died, she moved to Cody to be close to her daughter, Darleen Hazlitt and family.

In 1976 she met and married Elmer (Whitey) Christler in Cody. Her last eight years were spent at the Bee Hive Home in Cody, where she was very happy.

Viola was very active in Rebekah Lodge, Cody Council on Aging, and Senior Citizen Inc. She belonged to the Cody Bible Church.

She is survived by her daughter Darleen (Jack) Allen of Cody and son Ray Barr of Longmont, Colo.; four grandsons; three granddaughters-in-law; two step-grandsons, and three step-granddaughters; four great-grandsons and five great-granddaughters; two step great-grandsons and one step great-granddaughter.

Viola was preceded in death by two husbands: Marvin Greeno and Elmer (Whitey) Christler; son-in-law Donald Hazlitt, daughter-in-law Louise Barr; a grandson, twin granddaughters (infant), a great-grandson, her parents and three sisters.

As per her wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held.

Ballard Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
