Donald “Donnie” Cozzens died Monday, Sept. 26, 2011, while working in the sugar beet field beside his lifelong friend Terry Jones. He was 65.

Donnie was born on Oct. 6, 1945 to Joseph Francis and Beula Fay (Good) Cozzens in Cody.

After graduating from Powell High School, he worked in the oil fields and enlisted in the Air Force. Donnie was a proud veteran of the Vietnam era, during which time he was a member of the medical corps and traveled extensively.

After earning a bachelor of science degree at the University of Wyoming in 1974, Donnie worked as a field biologist for several years. He served as water master for the Shoshone/Heart Mountain Irrigation District and later worked for the city of Powell, Associated Couriers and as a tour guide in Yellowstone National Park.

Throughout all of Donnie’s work, he was also a devoted songwriter. He was a member of Broadcast Music Inc. and a voting member of the Country Music Association.

Donnie married Teresa (Teri) Harvey on Dec. 23, 1984 and they had one precious daughter, Molly Cozzens.

Donnie loved God, his family and friends, his LDS religion, knowledge, humor, music, animals, sports, and the great outdoors. He was a proud native son of Wyoming. Donnie was looking forward to experiencing the next stage of his eternal progression. The riches of this life meant little to him.

He is survived by his wife Teri; daughter Molly; sister Carol (Dorn) Thornberry of Portland, Ore.; and his brother Melvin (Erline) Cozzens of Iloilo, Philippines. He is remembered in the hearts of many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Francie and Beula.

Services will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011 at 10 a.m. at the LDS Chapel at 525 W. 7th Street in Powell with a graveside dedication to follow at Crown Hill Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans or a charity of choice.
