Kenneth E. “Kenny” Sykes, 71, died Monday, Aug. 15, 2011 at the Riverton Memorial Hospital in Riverton.

Kenny, the son of Victor and Georgia (Hogan) Sykes was born Feb. 18, 1940 in Stanford, Mont.

He graduated from Powell High School in 1958. After high school, Kenny enlisted in the U.S. Army and serving during the Korean Conflict.

In 1976, Kenny was united in marriage with Marla J. McCumber in Cody.  Kenny drove truck for most of his working life. In most recent years, he truly enjoyed his co-workers, customers, and employment as a greeter at Wal-Mart in both Cody and Riverton. 

His wife Marla died May 3, 1997.

Kenny was a very active member of all the branches of the Oddfellows and the V.F.W.

Grateful for having shared his life are Kenny’s partner, Nancy Schmidt of Riverton; his daughters, Jeanne (David) Ballinger of Cody, Barb (Ken) Poley of Cody; many grandchildren, including Jericho Brown of Mesa, Ariz., Wade Brown of Rochester, N.Y., Stacey Bush of Laramie, Scott Ballinger of Cody, Brady Poley of Cody, Chad Poley of Cody; many great-grandchildren; two sisters, Agnes Phelander, Ruby (Rex) Cozzens of Cowley, WY; and a host of other relatives and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marla; and son, James Strom.

A funeral service was held Friday, Aug. 19 at Ballard Funeral Home and burial followed in Riverside Cemetery.
