Jack Edmonds died Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at Campbell County Memorial Hospital of heart failure with his family by his side.

He was born Alonzo John “Jack” Edmonds on March 11, 1941 in Powell, to Manford and Vesta Edmonds and was raised on their 40-acre farm.

Jack graduated from Powell High School in 1959. He served in the Air Force from 1959 through 1963. He attended Northwest College in Powell, where he met and married Dorthy Roper in 1965. He graduated from Eastern Montana College in 1969 and began work for Montgomery Wards. In 1972, they moved to Gillette and raised three children. 

Jack finished his working career with the Campbell County School District, retiring in 2005.

He was an active member of the community, serving on the chamber board, Crime Stoppers Board and he was a city council member for 15 years. At the time of his death he was serving on the Pioneer Manor Foundation Board. He also belonged to the High Plains Community Church.

His interests included square dancing, gardening, woodcarving, camping and traveling the world, but it was his grandchildren that brought him the most joy.

Jack is survived by his wife of 46 years, Dorthy Edmonds, and his children Darin (Tausha) Edmonds of Gillette, Scott (Marta) Bartolomei Edmonds of New York City, and Nicole (Brian) Miller of Hong Kong. Jack leaves behind seven beloved grandchildren: Angelica, Christopher, Keith, Katie, Kaya, Shae and Kian.

He was preceded in death by infant twin daughters; two brothers; one sister; and his mother and father.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 5, at High Plains Community Church in Gillette with Pastor Dan Morgan officiating. Inurnment will follow at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Gillette with military honors provided by the American Legion Post No. 42 drill team.
