Memorial services for Jeanette Ann (Hanson) Davidson are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 19, at St. Barbara’s Catholic Church in Powell, with Father Emmanuel Abiriyi officiating. Burial will be at the Crown Hill Cemetery in Powell.

Jeanette died on May 15, 2011. She was 81.

She was born on Aug. 29, 1929, in Dickinson, N.D., the daughter of Edwin A. Hanson and Rose Mary Ries Hanson. She attended Dickinson Elementary School and Dickinson High School, graduating in May 1947. She went to work as secretary in the Stark County Veteran’s Service office in Dickinson.

She married Donald S. (Don) Davidson at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dickinson on April 12, 1956.  One month later, they moved to Meeteetse. Don’s job later took them to various locations in the Rocky Mountain region and to Alberta, Canada. They were blessed with four sons and one daughter. Jeanette was a stay-at-home mother and served as chauffeur for the children, taking them to various school activities, church activities and lawn tending jobs.

With the moves, Jeanette had the added challenge of establishing new households and helping the children adjust to new schools and classmates. She enjoyed numerous summer vacation trips with her family seeing sights throughout the U.S. and trips back home to visit her family.

Don and Jeanette moved to Powell in 1983 and built a house outside of town. Upon Don’s retirement, they made Powell their retirement home.  They especially enjoyed the country living and mountain scenery from their patio. In 2004, they moved into a townhouse in Powell.

Jeanette was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and was always very interested in the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. Jeanette was a member of St. Barbara’s Church and sang in the choir for several years. She also enjoyed reading, embroidery, playing bridge, maintaining a daily journal and working on crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles.

Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents, one half-brother, and one half-sister.

She is survived by her husband Don of Powell; sons Jeffrey of Houston, Texas, Steven of Evanston, U. S. Navy Commander Stuart (Rebekah) of Silverdale, Wash., Jonathan of Salt Lake City, Utah; daughter Cynthia Lucas (Myron) of Garden Plain, Kan.; five grandchildren; brother James R. Hanson (Julie) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and two sisters, Marjorie Butts of Nekoosa, Wis., and Ardella Hunke (Lowell) of Spearfish, S.D.

Memorial donations in Jeanette’s name may be made to St. Barbara’s Catholic Church Foundation in Powell, Powell Medical Foundation in Powell, or to a charity of your choice.

Thompson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
