Peter “Pete” Ravnholdt Rudd, 69, died in his sleep at his home in Cody on May 10, 2010.

He had celebrated his 69th birthday on May 3, just a couple weeks after he made the decision to no longer fight the cancer he’d battled for two years.

Pete was born in Chicago, Ill. in 1941, and he grew up in Brook Park, Minn. During his high school years, he developed a love for music, primarily jazz, which continued to be a special part of his life.

He graduated from Pine City High School in 1958. He served in the U.S. Air Force where, in Denver, he met and married Beatrice Okubo.

Together they moved to Grand Forks, N.D., where their two sons, David and Daniel, were born. Upon his discharge from the Air Force, the Rudds moved back to Minnesota, where they founded Rudd Building Company, constructing both residential and commercial buildings.

Pete and Bea worked together to raise their two boys, and the boys grew up with many of their dad’s qualities: honesty, integrity, love for the outdoors, and the knowledge and skills of construction and business that they use in their careers today.

In 1981, the moved to Cody, where they purchased a water-conditioning business, currently known as Pioneer Water Systems, which gave them the opportunity to forge many new friendships. In Cody, they were able to enjoy camping, hunting, fishing, horseback riding and discovering the unique history of Wyoming.

In 1985, their daughter, Breanna, was born. As she grew, she was often Pete’s shadow. The two shared many passions, but it was the love of music that became their particular bond.

Pete was a kind man who loved God, his family and his friends with sincerity and devotion.

He is survived by his wife and best friend, Bea, of Cody; two sons David (Karen) and Daniel (Debbi), all of Denver; daughter Breanna of Cody; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother Lowell (June) of Proctor, Minn.; sisters-in-law Bobbie Schade (Bill) of Denver and Jacquie Merrill (Gene) of Longmont, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be May 19, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Cody. Memorial donations to Spirit Mountain Hospice would be appreciated.
