Gerald "Bill" Johnson of Powell died Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010, at the Powell Valley Care Center. He was 92.

He was born Nov. 2, 1917 in Alliance, Nebr., the son of Ira E. and Bessie E. (Brown) Johnson and received his education there. He served in the military from 1941 to 1946. He was awarded the American Defensive Service Ribbon, the American Theater of Operation Service Ribbon, the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Service Ribbon, good Conduct medal and the AR 600-69 Victory Medal for her service.

He married Zoeralda Jean Labertew on April 3, 1949 in Wheatland, and they lived in Wheatland, Thermopolis, and Powell. Gerald was a dairy farmer, and an electrician. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and rebuilding pumps and motors.

Gerald is survived by sons Jerry (Sharon) Johnson of Thermopolis, Jim (Kelly) Johnson of Powell, and daughter Jean (Bud) Trimbo of Spring Hill, Tenn.; a sister Lucille (Charlie) Knudson of Wheatland; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Zoeralda; brother Richard and sister-in-law Alice; brother Eugene and sister-in-law Helen; and sister Mary and brother-in-law Cecil Cox.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held Thursday, March 3 at 4:30 p.m. at the VFW Hall in Powell. A second memorial service will be held on Friday, March 5 at 1 p.m . at the First State Bank Conference Room in Wheatland.

Thompson Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.
