Jennie Margaret (Sheme) Walsh

Jennie Margaret Sheme Walsh, 85, died at the Help for Health Hospice Home in Riverton on Dec. 28, 2009.

Jennie was born on April 13, 1924, in Scammon, Kansas, the youngest of nine children to John and Ivana (Tomavich) Sheme. She grew up and graduated from high school in Scammon. She then received her degree in secretarial studies from Northwest Community College in Powell.

She married Anthony Charles Walsh Sr. on March 10, 1945, in Pittsburgh, Kansas. They later divorced.

Jennie lived in Powell for more than 60 years before moving to Riverton in 2008 to be closer to family.

Jennie was baptized into the Catholic faith and was a member of St. Margaret's Catholic Church.

She was a 38-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Eagles Auxiliary in Powell, and she enjoyed bowling, watching baseball games, gardening and raising roses and peonies.

She worked as a bartender at Clyde's Bar in Powell, at the Pioneer Club, at the Holiday Inn in Cody, and at Koe's Bar and Lounge in Ralston. She also did secretarial work for Husky and Conoco Oil in Cody.

She is survived by her son Tony Walsh (Maxine) of Riverton; daughter Sandra Schrage of Thermopolis; three grandchildren, Ivana Hensley (Cody), David Hendryx (Jamie) and Nick Hendryx (Amanda); and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her former spouse, four brothers and four sisters.

A viewing will be Thursday, Dec. 31from 8-9 a.m. at the Davis Funeral Home in Riverton.

Funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. at St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Riverton, with interment at Mountain View Cemetery.
