Shevlin Tell Whitaker, beloved son and brother, died Dec. 19, 2009, after a courageous 10-year battle with pulmonary arterial hypertension. Visitations will be Tuesday, Dec. 22 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home and Wednesday, Dec. 23 from 10-11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Dec. 23 at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, with interment will following the service at the Penrose Cemetery.
Shevlin was born in Lancaster, Calif. on Nov. 22, 1987, to Robert Andrew and Alana Olsen Whitaker. He was an Eagle Scout, and he graduated from Powell High School in 2006. He was attending Brigham Young University-Idaho to become an electrical engineer. A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Shevlin served a two-year mission in Billings. Most of all, Shevlin loved the outdoors, guns and hunting. He was able to hunt elk in the lower elevations in Casper, fish for shark in Florida and hunt grizzly bear in Alaska because of the generosity of those who donate to the Outdoor Dream and Make a Wish foundations.
Shevlin pushed himself hard, and he was always looking for and accepting challenges. He was a good and loyal friend.
He is survived by his parents; his brothers, Trevor Robert Whitaker (Andrea) of Laramie and Lan Gernett Whitaker of Tulsa, Okla.; sisters Brooke Alana Whitaker of Canton, S.D. and Tellese Megan Whitaker of Powell; grandmother Dorothy Jean Olsen of Mt. Pleasant, Utah; and grandfather Robert Whitaker of Magnolia, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather Blain Gernett Olsen and his grandmother Elgia LaRue Whitaker.
