James Edward “Eddie” Irion was born Nov. 24th, 1925 in Miles City, Mont., the son of Glen and Carrie (Steadman) Irion. He died in the early morning of July 13th after a six-day stay at the Horizon Hospice Home in Billings. He had previously been diagnosed with MDS, a precursor to leukemia.

Eddie graduated from Custer County High School in Miles City in 1944. He was a veteran of World War II, and his fondest memory was a Bible study with a doctor and his family in the Philippines where he solidified his relationship with Jesus.

He married Doris Carter on July 30, 1951 in Miles City and moved from Montana to Deaver, where they raised their family, in 1960. He farmed, ranched, and drove school bus for 33 years. He enjoyed bowling and three-wheeling with his family when they lived in Deaver. He and Doris retired and moved to Billings in 2005.

Ed was known for his quiet, gentle spirit. He truly loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his friends. He loved the Lord and the family has comfort knowing he is with the Lord now. He loved to watch Fox News on television and reading the paper until his vision declined. He liked to pitch horseshoes and enjoyed following the sports his children and grandchildren were involved in. He looked forward to visiting with friends at his weekly Tuesday morning breakfast group. Now, he could be saying, “The view's great, the music's great and no more bills to pay!”

He is survived by his wife Doris, son Dennis Irion (Charlene ) and daughter Carrie Reichert (Tim), all of Billings, seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Martha Rust and son Mark Irion.

Memorial contributions can be sent to Horizon Hospice Home, 1019 Neptune Blvd.,Billings, MT 59105. The funeral service will be held at the Smith West Chapel (304 34th St W, Billings, MT) at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 18.
