Eva Flona (Losey) Yonts

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 29 at 10 a.m. at Union Presbyterian Church for longtime Whistle Creek resident, Eva Flona (Losey) Yonts who died Monday, June 22 at the Powell Valley Care Center at the age of 94. The Rev. George Pasek will officiate at services at the church, and burial will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.

Eva was born Oct. 8, 1914 in Phillips County, Kan. to Ezra Bernard Losey and Anna Eliza (Bradley) Losey. She was raised in Kansas and educated in the Holcomb County, Kan. school system. She married Harold Robert Yonts on July 3, 1934 in Garden City, Kan.

In 1934, they homesteaded in the Whistle Creek community southeast of Powell, where they resided for more than 60 years. After her husband’s death in 1998, Eva spent time with family at the homestead and later in Casper. In April 2004, she moved into the Powell Valley Care Center.

Eva was an example of the classic country homemaker. In addition to raising her family, she spent time gardening, canning and tending to many of the animals. During her years on the homestead, she was also active in the Whistle Creek community. Eva wrote a column full of Whistle Creek news for the Powell Tribune and the Lovell Chronicle. She also stayed busy in the Whistle Creek Women’s Club, Farmers’ Union, Naomi Rebekah Lodge No. 36 and the Whistle Creek Community Church, under the direction of Rev. Stanley Evans and, later, Rev. Ray Nott.

Survivors include four sons, Robert Yonts (Barb) of Casper, Larry Yonts of Powell, Dean Yonts (Kathy) of Scottsbluff, Neb. and Delmer Yonts (Peggy) of Grant-Valkaria, Fla.; a daughter, Linda  Pangburn (Gary) of Greybull; nine grandchildren, Clinton Yonts (Tami) and Calvin Yonts (Brenda) of Midland, Texas, Lucinda Pope of Levelland, Texas, Craig Yonts of Casper, Ty Pangburn of Longmont, Colo., Travis Yonts of Omaha, Neb., Marissa Yonts of Scottsbluff, Neb., Dylan Yonts and Hillery Masterton (Craig) of Grant-Valkaria, Fla.; eight great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Yonts, and five brothers.

Visitation at Thompson Funeral Home is from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 28.
