Steven Fred Wilson, 50, died at his home in Riverton on Easter Sunday morning, April 12, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Riverton on Nov. 28, 1958, the son of Shirley Ann (Fike) and Arthur Leroy Wilson. He grew up in the Crowheart area and graduated from Wind River High School in 1977. He lived in Riverton for most of his life.
Steve married Marie Wicks on Sept. 15, 1984, in Riverton. He worked for John Deere in Riverton for 30 years, and he was most recently the service manager for Lathrop Equipment,.
He joined the Riverton B.P.O. Elks Lodge No. 1693 in 1992 and served in all the offices, including as Exalted Ruler in1997-98. He was Leading Knight for the Wyoming State Elks Ritual Team, which competed in Chicago in June 1997. He also served as lodge treasurer for 10 years, as the all-state ritual coach in 1999 and was Wyoming State Elks Chaplain 2005-06, Wyoming State Trustee 2008-09, and had just received the 2008-2009 Elk of the Year Award.
Steve was an active bowler, serving as president of the ABC/USB league for many years and was secretary of the association for 14 years. He bowled in eight national tournaments and 30 state tournaments. He bowled the first sanctioned 300 game in Riverton on Dec. 7, 1983, and had a total of five perfect games over the years. His family said Steve also loved to play golf and enjoyed family time. His grandsons, they said, were his pride.
Survivors include his wife of Riverton; a son, Charlie Gercie (Kristi) of Riverton; a daughter, Tammi Henderson (Tye) of Powell; father-in-law Floyd Wicks (Helen) of Riverton; brother Patrick Wilson (Cindy) of Wisconsin; sister Christy Yaffa (Gerry) of Cheyenne; sisters-in-law Laura Cornett of Casper, Marge Jones of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Floydene "Shawndee" Lussier of San Antonio; two grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kenneth Wilson; mother-in-law, Delores Wicks and brother-in-law, Floyd Wicks, Jr.
A viewing will be Friday, April 17 from 5–7 p.m. at the Davis Funeral Home in Riverton. Cremation will follow the viewing with memorial services at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 18, at James H. Moore Career Center with the Reverend Tommy Means officiating.
Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Riverton. Riverton B.P.O. Elks Lodge No. 1693 will conduct committal services at the memorial and the graveside services.
