Former Powell resident, Paul Robert Larsen, died Saturday, June 30 at the West Park Long Term Care Center in Cody at the age of 81. He had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.

He was born Nov. 7, 1915, in Bridger, Mont., son of Paul Meier Larsen and Melvina M. Larsen, He attended school through the 10th grade in Bridger, then joined the Navy during World War II as soon as he was old enough. He served his tour of duty mainly in the Philippine Islands and was proud that he had served his country and spoke of the experiences often.

He married Arland Ruth Fischer June 13, 1949, in Billings, Mont. The couple moved to Powell shortly after their wedding, and he worked at various oil field jobs until going to work for Standard of Indiana, later to become Amoco Production Co. He worked in the Elk Basin field for 37 years; his last position before retirement was a field foreman.

Paul worked with a great many men related to the oil industry and was liked and respected by his peers.

He enjoyed boating and fishing and was a member of the Big Horn Boat Club. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. After retirement, Paul and Arland moved to Cody and built the home of their dreams in the beautiful Northfork area. Working around his home was his true enjoyment.

His family will remember him as a quiet man, who had a smile and laugh that were heart warming.

Survivors include his wife Arland of Cody; a brother, Robert R. Larsen of Los Lumas, N.M.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Paul John Larsen; his parents, Paul and Melvina Larsen; three brothers, Lawrence Edward Larsen, Oscar John Larsen and Walter C. Larsen; two sisters, Lillian D. Muller and Marion C. Cook.

Graveside services will be today (Tuesday) at 10:30 a.m. at Crown Hill Cemetery. Pastor George Pasek, Cody, will conduct. Arrangements are by Thompson Funeral Home.
