Sylvia M. (Franzen) DeWitt, age 88, formerly of Powell, passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at the Wyoming Retirement Center in Basin.

She was born on December 24, 1919, in Burlington, the daughter of Arthur Leonard and Clara (Pittman) Wilson.  She grew up in Burlington and received her schooling at St. Joe.

She married George Franzen in 1938.  George passed away on November 6, 1961. She later married Perry Dewitt.

Sylvia moved to Basin in 1962 and worked very hard, doing what she had to do to support her family after George passed away.  She was a cook at the Basin School lunchroom, worked at a nursing home in Greybull and for the Highway Department in Basin, cleaned houses and cared for children in her home.  She then moved to Cheyenne for several years.  She moved to Powell in 2000, to be closer to family.

Sylvia was happy when she became a grandmother and enjoyed loving and spending time with her grandbabies.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her husbands, George Franzen and Perry DeWitt; her daughter, Eunice Manore; her sons, Jerry, Jim, and Alfred Franzen; one granddaughter, Jeniffer Seiloff; four brothers, Bert, Leroy, Charlie, and Stanley Wilson; and two sisters, Edith Cregger Tollman and Barbara Albert.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Howard and Linda Franzen of Worland; her grandchildren, Bruce (Denese) Manore of Laramie, Marsha (Kraig) Perry of Craig, Colo., Rick Franzen of Rock Springs, Rusty Franzen and Shanda McElveen, both of Texas; her great-grandchildren, Mathew and Samantha Manore, Brandon and Kaylee Perry, Sarah Seiloff, and Stephanie and Kara Franzen; one sister, May Schmidt of Idaho; and one brother, Ray Wilson of Oregon; and many nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be held on Monday, June 30 at the Atwood Family Chapel in Basin from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m.

Graveside services will be held on June 30 at 11a.m. at the Mount View Cemetery in Basin.

Memorials will be received in Sylvia’s name at Security State Bank, P.O. Box 531, Basin, WY 82410.  Proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society.

Atwood Family Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.
