Burdette (Bud) Carpenter passed away in his sleep at home in Freeport, Fla. on May 25, 2008, after an extended illness. He was born November 2, 1936, in the back bedroom of the family homestead in Powell. At the time of his birth, voting for the Presidential election was taking place in the front room. It seems fitting that he spent part of his last evening watching the presidential candidates.
Bud was accepted into the U.S. Border Patrol Academy in 1958, and he then traveled extensively throughout the U.S. while serving as a border patrol agent. He retired from his position in Del Rio, Tex. in 1989. After traveling by RV for three years, he and his wife, Dickie, settled in Freeport, Fla., but the Tetons were always in his heart.
Due to his health, Bud was unable to travel and regreted missing class reunions. He had so many old friendships and fond memories.
He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Mary Estelle Carpenter and sisters Betty McPhail and Bonnie Romey.
Bud is survived by his wife of 48 years, Jerry (Dickie) Carpenter; two sons, Lee and Steve; daughter-in-law, Patricia; and three grandchildren, Chas, Caitlin and Christy Carpenter.
His ashes will be returned to his beloved Wyoming.
