Meldon Junius Tanner, beloved father and grandfather, died Sunday, June 8, in his home after a long battle with Alzheimer's. He was 76.
Meldon was born March 28, 1932, to Vincent and Florence (Keppner) Tanner in Anaconda, Mont. He was the fifth child of 10, was raised in Byron, and graduated from Byron High School in 1950. He married his high school sweetheart Alice Louise Dalton on June 13, 1950. They began their life together in Byron and were blessed with five children.
Meldon worked for the USDA in Lovell for several years before moving to Utah in 1973 to get involved in mining. He was a great horseman, trapper, fisherman, and an excellent shot as a sportsman. He was a typical Wyoming cowboy. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and square dancing. He was a man of many talents and could fix and do anything he put his mind to do. He loved his children and grandchildren and loved spending time with them.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Alice, on March 23, 2001.
He is survived by his five children, Richard Mel Tanner, Sherry Lou Tanner (Sid) Tanner, Ronn Dalton Tanner (Trish), Jerry Frank Tanner (Leslie), and Linda Ray Tanner (Richard) Rowberry, 18 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, three brothers and four sisters.
A private family gathering will take place at a later date on the North Fork to celebrate Meldon's life.
