Howard Sparhawk, 92, died Wednesday, May 21 in Billings, Mont.

He was born Dec.18, 1915 in Rushville, Ill. to Wyoming pioneers, Frank O. and Bessie E. Sparhawk. His parents lived and ranched in the Crandall Creek and Chance, Wyo. areas.

Howard’s early years in the Clark’s Fork area formed his love for the mountains and rivers.

Howard attended the Clark area Pioneer School in his early years, and then returned with his parents to Illinois to finish high school. With the outbreak of World War II, he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps to fly B-25 bombers in the China-Burma-India Theater. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army Air Corps in September 1945 as a First Lieutenant.

A service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday June 1  at the Community Center in Clark, with interment in Bennett Butte Cemetery.

Memorials in Howard’s memory can be made to the Clark Community Center.
