Eugenio Sanchez died Sept. 26, 2006, surrounded by his family at West Park Hospital.

He was born Oct. 17, 1933, to Camilo Sanchez and Inez Guzman in Brownsville, Texas. At the tender age of 6 he was called upon to help support his family, thus beginning his life long passion of learning.

He met Petra Lopez in 1962 and together they raised 10 children. They became migrant farm workers, traveling to Pennsylvania to harvest apples and grapes, Ohio for cucumbers and tomatoes, Oklahoma for cotton and Wyoming for sugar beets.

They eventually settled in Wyoming in 1967 where he worked for various farmers and the family continued to work the beet fields.

He retired in 1992 from Ogawa farms and they settled in Ralston. Gardening was his passion during retirement as was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He was a man of few words, gone but not forgotten.

He is survived by his wife Petra, children Paul Gonzalez of Mountain View, Joe Gonzalez of Florida, Velicia (Doug) McCullough of Powell, Victor Lopez of Cody, Alfonzo (Chandel) Lopez of Billings, Ayda (Tom) Hamann of Cody, Leonard (Sue) Sanchez of Cody, Eddie (Dawn) Sanchez of Evanston, Amalia (Bill) Gould of Powell and Dora Sanchez of Cody, 23 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, sisters Maria Vasquez, Josephina Garcia, Guadalupe Sanchez of Texas and brother Manual Sanchez of Michigan.
