A memorial service was held Wednesday, Sept. 6 at Mount Olive Lutheran Church for Rudolph Snyder, 77, who died Friday, Sept. 1 at St. Vincent Healthcare in Billings, Mont.
He was born Feb. 26, 1929, at home on a farm south of Laurel. He was the son of Peter and Eva Schneider. During his childhood, the family farmed in Montana near St. Xavier, Shepherd, and between Laurel and Billings.
Rudy entered the Army Air Force Nov. 12, 1946, and served overseas in the Azores. He was an electrical mechanic and earned the rank of sergeant. He received a World War II Victory Medal and was honorably discharged Sept. 30, 1949.
On July 16, 1952, he married Ida Althoff Smith. They lived in Edgar before moving to Billings in 2003.
Survivors include his wife, Ida, in Billings; children, Larry Smith of Cody, Mary Lou Isbell of Boise, Idaho, Kathleen Hart of LaGrange, N.C., Janet Hanson of Cody, Eugene Snyder and Mark (Edna) Snyder, both of Clark, and Roger Snyder of Belfry, Mont.; his sister, Mary Degele of Billings; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Verner and Art Schneider.
Burial of ashes were in the Rockvale Cemetery. Arrangements were by Dahl Funeral Chapel, Billings.
