Robert Hoaglund Borron of Powell died Wednesday, June 28 at Deaconess Billings Clinic in Billings, Mont. He was 76.
He was born on June 17, 1930 in Cody, to Robert and Elizabeth (Hoaglund) Borron. He was educated in Cody, and graduated with the Cody High School class of 1949. He attended one year of college at Northwest in Powell, where he met his future wife.
On June 18, 1950, he married Carol Joan Haney, and they settled in Powell to begin their family. To their union were born three sons and a daughter. At the time of his death, Bob and Carol had been married for 56 years.
Before graduating from high school, Bob enlisted in the Army National Guard on Oct. 11, 1947. He was deployed to Korea on Aug. 15, 1950 where he served for 13 months, and was decorated for bravery. Upon his return from Korea, he settled into a job with Conoco as a systems technician, and continued to work for them for the next 28 years. He is also a past president of the North Big Horn Basin American Petroleum Institute.
He was a member of the Episcopal Church, the Eagles, and the Elks. He loved sports of all kinds, and coached his sons’ Little League teams. He also enjoyed wood crafts, arrowhead hunting, 4-wheeling, and river rafting.
He is survived by his wife, Carol of Powell; his three sons, Jeff (Lee) of Dallas, Texas, Tom (Connie) of Twin Falls, Idaho; and Tim (Cindy) of Billings; his daughter, Linda (Robert) Thorp, of Toronto, Canada; five grandchildren, Cami, Brandie, Ashley, Brookney, and Matthew; two great-grandchildren, Maxwell and Hannah, his brother, Jack (Fay) Borron; and his four sisters, Marge (Lloyd) Barling, Ruth Sperry, Pat Helmbolt, and Eva Warren.
Services were held on Monday, July 3 at the New Life Christian Fellowship in Powell. The Rev. Ron Lytle officiated. Pall bearers were Bill Sharp, Ed Hunter, Don Kremer, Clay Miller, Ralph Newell, and Sen. Al Simpson. Honorary pall bearers were the Veterans of the Korean war and the Cody Class of 1949. Thompson Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
