Wyoming pioneer Christina (Tina) Mary Holderegger died May 19, 2006, at the Beehive Home in Evanston at the age of 95.
She was born May 22, 1910, in a ranch house to John and Mary Friedlan outside of Powell. She was the first baby ever baptized in St. Barbara's Catholic Church in Powell. She lived most of her long life in Powell moving to Evanston to be near her son John and his family 12 years ago. She was the youngest of four Friedlan children, all of whom preceded her in death in birth order.
She married Paul Holderegger in 1944 in Cody and they moved to Powell where he had a Harley-Davidson/Indian Motorcycle dealership. The couple spent countless hours touring on their Harley. John Holderegger, their son, was born in 1951 and was their only child.
Paul preceded her in death in 1964. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She was an avid horsewoman and rode well into her 80s. She loved flowers and gardening, pets and livestock. She enjoyed boating with her husband and later with her son and his family. There was always an adventurous side of Christina and she loved to travel, going to post World War II Europe in 1947 and visiting California several times when her son lived there. She white water rafted the Snake River when she was 82 with her sister, Agnes, who was 85 at the time. She has two nieces who were like daughters to her - Margaret Fitzgerald of Seattle, and Mary Moore of Ramona, Calif. She enjoyed all the good times spent with them.
She is survived by her son, John, and his wife, Leana; two grandsons, Michael and Daniel of Evanston; and a granddaughter, Amanda of Magna, Utah; her two nieces and countless other family members worldwide.
She lived almost 96 years, dying just three days short of her 96th birthday. She will be remembered for her love of life, family and her church, to which she dedicated her life.
A Mass celebrating her life will take place at St. Mary Magdalene's Catholic Church in Evanston at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 23. She will be buried at Crown Hill Cemetery in Powell at a later date. Crandall Funeral Home of Evanston in charge of arrangements.
