Long-time Powell teacher Margaret M. Whiston, 80, died Saturday, March 4 in Kemmerer following a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born Aug. 22, 1925, in Kemmerer to John R. and Rachel M. Whiston. She taught middle school English in Powell for 35 years. She loved teaching and devoted her time to inspiring students.

She was a member of the St. Patrick’s Parish and was active in the Council of Catholic Women. She also volunteered at Fossil County Frontier Museum, and she was actively involved in the Kemmerer Senior Center.

Survivors include her sisters, Patricia Moon of Fallon, Nev., and Donna Marker of Rogers, Ark., and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers Jack and Ronald Whiston; and sisters Ruth Kirkwood and Audrey Williams.

A rosary will be said at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Kemmerer Thursday, March 9 at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, March 10 at 10 a.m., with burial in the Kemmerer City Cemetery under the direction of Crandall Funeral Home.
