Funeral services were held at the First Southern Baptist Church in Powell on Saturday, Dec. 3 for Samuel Sherrod Scruggs, 81, Cody, who died Wednesday, Nov. 30 in Greeley, Colo.

Born in Jacksonville, Texas, on Dec. 13, 1923, he was the fifth of 10 children of A.T. and Luetta (Powers) Scruggs. He was working on a seismograph crew which brought him to Wyoming where he met his future wife, Ann Moore. They were married in Denver, Colo., on Sept. 25, 1946.

He later went to work for Ohio Oil Company (which became Marathon) where he was employed for 36 years in various positions.

Never at a loss for words and a stranger to no one, he loved to share the plan of salvation with most all he met. Sam served as a deacon and trustee of the First Baptist Church, the First Southern Baptist Church of Powell and the Rock River (Wyo.) Baptist Church.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman, thus Wyoming became his beloved home. He could tell you exactly where he had downed his game and caught which fish, because he knew the mountains, lakes and rivers that well.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Ann (Moore) Scruggs of Cody, now living in Greeley, Colo.; two daughters, Doryea (Fred) Gibbs of Eaton, Colo., and Marsha Scruggs of Greeley; two sons, Sam (Rebecca) Scruggs of Hubbard, Ore., and Mark (Joyce) Scruggs of Powell; grandchildren Anissa (Matt) Bree of Cody, Derek (Joan) Jackson of Severance, Colo., Amaris (Darick) Schneider of Eaton, Colo., Leslie Scruggs of Hubbard, Ore., Lori (Noe) Zuniga of Temecula, Calif., Tyler Scruggs of Cody; and Matthew Scruggs of Powell; nine great-grandchildren; and five brothers, Alfred, Frank Loy, Coy and LC, all of Texas.

Burial was in Powell’s Crown Hill Cemetery.

Memorial gifts may be sent to the First Southern Baptist Church, Gilbert and Madison Streets, Powell, WY 82435.
