Funeral services are scheduled Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 11 a.m. at United Methodist Church in Powell for Mary E. Higgins, 74, who died Saturday, Nov. 12 at Powell Valley Care Center of cancer.

The Rev. Susan Adams-Trembath will officiate at services and burial in Crown Hill Cemetery.

She was born June 4, 1931, at Powell, daughter of Guiles C. Lutz and Lora F. (Scudder) Lutz. She attended Powell schools through the 11th grade at Powell High School. She and Wilbur Higgins eloped and were married in Billings, Mont.

They lived in Powell, and she was fond of reading, baking, gardening and going to the mountains to camp and watch wildlife. She was a devoted and loving wife and mother and made a habit of putting others before herself. Her sense of humor could light up a room, and she touched everyone with her strength and gentle spirit. Her family meant the world to her, and she was extremely proud of her five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was a member of the Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband Wilbur of Powell; a son, Jerry Higgins (Phyllis) of Powell; two daughters Joy Cummings (Larry) of Green River and Lora Nordland of Powell; two sisters, Lara Jeanette Ryles of Billings, Mont., and Dorothy Lutz of Powell; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Her parents and her husband’s parents, James Harrison Higgins and Winnie W. Higgins, preceded her in death.

Thompson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
