Marion Harmon, better known as “Buck” to family and friends, died Wednesday, Sept. 28 at the Powell Valley Care Center after a long bout with cancer. He was 84.
He was born in Washington County, Mo., on Oct. 29, 1920, son of Arthur and Mary Harmon. He served honorably in the U.S. Army Airborne during World War II in Central Burma, China and India. During these battles and campaigns, he was awarded two Bronze Stars for service to his country. After the war, he married Eilene May Wheeler on Sept. 20, 1946, in Butte, Mont.
Buck and Eilene made their home in Powell for the last 58 years. After 30 years with Amoco Production Co. working in the Elk Basin plant, Buck retired to his family and small scale farming. He had many hobbies and activities, including membership in the Powell Valley Saddle Club and the Big Horn Basin Foxtrotters Association.
He enjoyed working on his farms, riding horses, hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his loving wife, Eilene; one daughter, Betty Lou Mauch and husband Melvin of Powell; his son, Randy Clifford Harmon and wife Gail of Nye, Mont.; four grandchildren, Christi, Michelle, Chad and Tami; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Philip, Ben, Bill, Floyd and Vernie, and one sister, Alice Loosmore.
Funeral services were Saturday, Oct. 1 at the First Baptist Church in Powell. Bill Greaham read the obituary and Pastor Jesse Sauskojus officiated.
Interment was at Crown Hill Cemetery. The pallbearers were Chad Harmon, Jeff Greaham, Danny Wheeler, John Wambeke, Bruce Fauskee and Danny Flores. Three honorary pallbearers were Bud Wheeler, Floyd Wheeler and Dick Baldwin.
Memorials can be made in Buck’s name and sent to Powell Valley Care Center or the American Cancer Society. Arrangements were handled by Thompson Funeral Home.
