Funeral services will be conducted today (Tuesday) at 10 a.m. at Christ The King Lutheran Church in Cody for Kurtis Ryan Rowland, 18, who was killed in an automobile accident Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 17 on U.S. Highway 14-16-20 east of Cody.

He was born Aug. 24, 1986, in Lovell to Steven Leroy and Darlene Louise (Zeller) Rowland. He graduated with honors from Cody High School in May of 2005. He was recently confirmed and baptized on Sunday, Aug. 14. His confirmation verse was: “Then said Jesus, If ye continue in my world, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:31-32.

Kurt wrote frequently, turning his thoughts into stories and filming his ideas, using friends and family as his characters. He enjoyed spending time with his brother, sister and friends by watching movies, going to the lake, hiking and driving adventures in the “Blue Whale.” Finding something unique in everyone was important to Kurt.

He was looking forward to attending Northwest College and becoming an English teacher.

Survivors include his father and mother, Steve and Darlene Rowland; his brother, Kelly; and his sister, Brooke, all of the family home; grandparents, Leroy and Nancy Evans of Riverton and Brent and Louise Zeller of Thermopolis; great-grandparents, Bob and Emily Aden of Thermopolis, and great-grandmother, Maxine Bjorke of Lovell; aunts and uncles, Tammy and Mike Timmons of Lovell, Bill Rowland of Falls City, Nebr., Dana and Kevin Spann of Byron, Dawn and Bryant Jolley of Worland; and his cherished cousins, Jesi and Jada Timmons, Colton Rowland, Olivia Spann, Todd, Brittania, Kenna and Gaton Jolley.

He was preceded in death by his grandpa, Kenneth Rowland; great-grandfather, Martin Bjorke; and cousins, Bailey Rowland and Jala Timmons.

Pastor Timothy King will officiate at services and burial in Riverside Cemetery, Cody. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to Christ The King Preschool or Make A Wish Foundation, in care of Cody High School 12125 10th Street, Cody, WY 82414.

Funeral arrangements are by Ballard Funeral Home.
