Shirley Ellen Halsey, 71, died Friday, March 19 at her home in Evanston.

She was born April 16, 1932, in Moorefield, Neb., to John Lew Wood and Eunice Delcie Warner. She was raised on a farm, and at the age of 7, drought forced her family from the farm.

She worked for Red Horse Oil for many years at the Get-N-Go store on Elk Street in Rock Springs. She was robbed at gun point twice while at work.

The love of family and friends was her most prized possession. Her 50-year class reunion was a highlight of her life.

Shirley was a member of the First Baptist Church and lived a Christian life, reflected in the poetry she loved to write. She had several poems published.

She loved holidays, Christmas cards, to cook for family and lilacs.

She is survived by sons Mark L. (Cindy) Boyd, John D. and Marvin D. Robinson, all of Evanston; grandchildren Barry Speicher, J.J.Boyd, Bonnie Mae Boyd, Amy (Travis) Klein, Mandy (David) Nichols, and Jeff Robinson; and great-grandchildren Robert Nichols, Lyric Nichols, Chelena Speicher, Adaisia Speicher and Davis Robinson.
