Lute Thormahlen

Funeral services are scheduled Wednesday, July 23 at 10 a.m. at Smith Funeral Chapel in Laurel, Mont., for Ludwig (Lute) Thormahlen, 93, of Park City, Mont., formerly of Powell.

Mr. Thormahlen died Friday, July 18 at Stillwater Community Hospital after residing at Beartooth Manor in Columbus, Mont.

He was born in Withee, Wisc., on Feb. 24, 1910, the 10th child of Carsten and Magda Thormahlen. He came to Bridger, Mont., as a child, and the family settled in the Sandcreek region.

He married Magdalena Bouwens Sept. 19, 1934. He farmed, did mechanic work and custom threshing in the Bridger area. During World War II, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy.

He was blessed with three sons, Robert, David and Dennis. In 1950, the family moved to the Powell area where he farmed and also did mechanic work until approximately 1978. For the past 16 years, he and his long-time, loving wife, Magdalena, have lived in the Powell and Park City, Mont., areas.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Magdalena Thormahlen; a son, Bob Thormahlen of the Denver area, and a son, David (Gerri) Thormahlen of the Washington and Oregon areas; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Burial will be in the Bridger Cemetery at approximately 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. A luncheon will follow at the Bridger Cafe. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Park City, MT 59063.
