Richard Harold (Sonny) Hilleary, 62, died Monday morning, March 17 at the Powell Hospital.

He had been a resident of Powell since September of 2002.

He was born Sept. 7, 1940, in Shawnee, Okla., to Lee and Vera (Stanfill) Hilleary. He attended nurses college and was employed at St. Anthony's Hospital in Oklahoma City as a psychiatry nurse for many years.

He served with the U. S. Army during the Korean conflict.

On March 14, 1969, he and Mary Taylor were married in Woodward, Okla. They lived in Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, and most recently, in Powell.

He was a member of the New Life Christian Fellowship Church in Powell. He enjoyed working in the yard and took pride in his flower gardens. He loved growing gladiolas.

Survivors include his wife Mary of Powell; step children Jimmy Gooch and wife Pam of Vacaville, Calif., and Patricia Rose Parrett and husband Jim of Nowata, Okla.; brother Paul Hilleary of Albuquerque, N.M.; sister Betty Van Dyke and husband Eugene of Powell; seven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; as well as local nieces and nephews Bud Boyles, Ed Boyles, Deanna MacKenzie, Debbie Smith and Janelle Mauch.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Juanita Stephens; and one great-granddaughter.

Cremation has taken place, and private memorial services will be held at a later date. Miratsky-Easton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
