Memorial services will be conducted Friday, Aug. 16 at 2 p.m. at Union Presbyterian Church in Powell for Carol Ann Groen, 65, who died early Tuesday morning, Aug. 13 after a lengthy illness.

She was born in Red Lodge, Mont., on Christmas Day 1936, the daughter of Ingrid and Ray Gebo.

She graduated from Red Lodge High School.

On June 26, 1955, she married William Richard (Dick) Groen, and they farmed in Powell until his recent retirement.

Quarterhorses were her passion, and for many years she showed HiDee Hook and other horses throughout the western states and Canada and won many championships in various categories.

She was a long-time member of the Presbyterian bell ringers and also taught Sunday School.

She enjoyed playing bridge and following her grandsons, Clay and Wade, in their sporting activities.

Survivors include her husband Dick; daughters Cheryl Elliott and husband Matt and Julie Thomas and husband Darren; and two grandsons, Clay and Wade Elliott, all of Powell. Also surviving is her sister, Joyce Dawson and husband Joe of Kennewick, Wash. and her brother, David Gebo and wife Emma of Pocatello, Idaho; and her mother-in-law, Wilma Groen of Powell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son; and her son, Douglas, who died when he was 14.

Memorials can be made to the Union Presbyterian Church in Powell or a charity of choice.
