Hilda C. Moody, 96, died at the Powell Nursing Home Wednesday, April 10.

She was born Dec. 25, 1905, in Fayette County, Texas, to Harry and Selma (Lockman) Wiedemann. She attended Scott's School for grade school and then graduated from Flatonia High School in 1924.

She attended Southwest Texas State Teachers College and began her teaching career in Moalton, Texas. She taught and did college work alternately until she graduated in 1933.

She taught the next 10 years in Rosenberg, Texas. During World War II, she worked for Petty Geophysical Company in Texas, then Oklahoma and Wyoming. She came to Powell in 1950.

She married Harold Moody on May 9, 1951. They bought a home on Avenue F and lived there until 1954 when her husband received a promotion to foreman in the Elk Basin oilfields, and they moved there. When the company houses were sold a few years later, they returned to Powell.

They were transferred to Worland in 1958, then returned to Powell in 1961 to the same house on Division Street that they left three years earlier. She remained in this house until just a few years ago.

Survivors include her sons, Gary Moody and wife Pat of Powell and Dennis Moody and wife Sue of Fort Myers, Fla.; grandchildren Shawn Moody and Treena Brown, both of Powell, and Gavin Moody and Alexis Peterson, both of Florida; and one great-granddaughter, Krystal Brown of Powell.

Cremation has taken place, with memorial services to be held at a later date. Miratsky-Easton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
