Funeral services were conducted Monday at First Baptist Church in Powell for Donnie (Don) Gene Creed, 68, who died at his Deaver home Thursday, July 5 after a long combination illness of Shy-Drager Syndrome, Parkinson Disease and cancer.

A second funeral service will be held at Franks Funeral Home in Wellington, Kans., Wednesday. Burial will follow in South Haven, Kans.

He was born Nov. 21, 1932, in Conway Springs, Kans., the fifth of seven children of Elmer E. and Helen L. (Clum) Creed. He grew up helping his father on the family farm.

He married Dorothy (Dot) Rayle Nov. 25, 1954, in Wellington, Kans. They moved to Red Feather Lakes, Colo., in 1959 and ran their own service station/garage business until 1969. He then returned to farm/ranch work.

They moved to Powell in 1976, where he worked for Burchell Hopkin. In 1984, they moved to Deaver.

Survivors include his wife, Dot; one daughter, Diana Ballinger and husband Pat of Deaver; three foster daughters, Lonnie Wambeke of Lubbock, Texas, Cheryl Ann Thomas of Wellington, Colo., and Sherree Porter of Sterling, Colo.; two sons, Dannie G. Creed of Rawlins and Dustin G. Creed of Powell; one sister, Mildred L. Calkins and husband Jack of Escondido, Calif.; three brothers, Willis D. Creed and wife Lois of Windom, Kans., Farris L. Creed and wife Pam of Olathe, Kasn., and Darrell R. Creed of Orange, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Norma Creed of Forestburg, Texas, and June Creed of Mulvane, Kans.; seven grandchildren, eight foster grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and five foster great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Dona June Creed; one foster daughter, Cynthia Ruth Shurtz; his parents and two brothers, Robert E. and Merle L. Creed.

The family would appreciate memorials for research on the Shy-Drager Syndrome, in care of Vanderbilt Shy-Drager Research Fund, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, AA-3228 Medical Center North, Nashville, TN 37232.
