Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Barbara's Catholic Church in Powell for Merced (Morrey) P. Gutierrez, 87, who died Sunday, April 1 at his Powell home.

Mr. Gutierrez was an employee of the City of Powell for over 30 years.

He was born July 7, 1913, in Salamanca, Mexico, son of Jose Castulo and Soccoro (Aza Pieto) Gutierrez.

He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of St. Barbara's Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife Soledad of Powell; three sons and their wives, John R. Gutierrez and Rosalia of Gillette, Richard and Shirley of Rock Springs and Eugene and Kathy of Powell; two daughters and their husbands, Mary Cortez and Jose of Greenville, Texas, and Helen Aviles and Guadalupe of Mission, Texas; one brother, Manuel Gutierrez and wife Betty of Sacramento, Calif.; three sisters, Victoria Hernandez, Ramona Montoya and husband Albert and Guadalupe Gonzalez, all of Powell; a brother-in-law, Tomas Caro of Tacoma, Wash., 23 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Carmen; a son, Henry; a sister, Trinidad Caro; and two brothers-in-law, Jesus Hernandez and Trinidad Gonzaez.

Visitation will be held today (Tuesday) from 5:30 p.m. until the time of service at St. Barbara's Catholic Church.

Christian Wake services will be held at 7 p.m. this evening (Tuesday) at St. Barbara's, with Father Tom Ogg reciting. Burial on Wednesday will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Eugene P. Gutierrez, John R. Gutierrez, Morris G. Gutierrez, Richard Gutierrez, John W. Gutierrez and Jose S. Cortez. Honorary pallbearers will be Tomas Munoz and Jose Gomez.
