(Jan. 21, 1941-Dec. 28, 2010) Norval Kent Carter was born on Jan. 21, 1941 in Lehi, Utah. He died Dec. 28, 2010 in Mount Pleasant, Texas. He was 69.

He was the oldest of six children born to Norval Edwin Carter and Alice Roberts Carter. In his early years the family lived in Panaca, Nev., and Roosevelt, Utah.

When Kent was 5 years old the family moved from Provo, Utah to Byron, where his father was hired as a science teacher. Kent grew up in Byron and graduated from Byron High School. He excelled in athletics and went on to play football at Northwest Community College in Powell. He continued his education at Eastern Montana College in Billings, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in education. For the next several years he was a teacher and coach in Washington and Oregon. Kent became interested in the restaurant business and owned the Carter House Family Restaurant in Medford, Ore., for many years. After moves to Portland, Ore., and San Jose, Calif., he chose his final residence in Naples, Texas. Although he planned to retire in Texas, he ended up co-owning Sally’s Country Rose restaurant in Mount Pleasant, Texas. In recent years, he struggled with complications of diabetes, which ended his life in the early morning hours of Dec. 28, 2010.

One of the highlights of Kent’s life was to be able to show his appreciation to his beloved parents by taking them on a trip to explore the Hawaiian Islands. Kent loved his many dogs and enjoyed training them to accompany him while bird hunting.  His other interests included collecting baseball cards, photography, attending sports events, watching sports on television and looking for new business opportunities.

His parents and an infant sister, Sherry Lee, preceded him in death. The big brother of this family will be missed by his sister Sharon Carter Dusenberry (Bill) of Fort Collins, Colo.; brother Brent Carter (Glenna) of Mesa, Ariz.; brother Shelden Carter of Sundance, Utah; sister Sue Carter Lewis (Joe) of Rock Springs; cousin Dan Williamson (Colleen Chapp) of Lenaxa, Kan.; cousin Sheila Williamson Becker (Wayne) of Powell; cousin Don Williamson of Celebration, Fla.; and by his former wife Sally Stalcup of Mount Pleasant, Texas.  Kent’s family, relatives and friends will remember his fun loving, adventurous spirit and his gregarious, helpful nature.

Cremation has taken place. After a memorial service in Naples, Texas, the family will hold a private service to remember Kent’s life in Provo, Utah at a later date.

Memorial donations may be given to the American Diabetes Association or a charity of the donor’s choosing.
