Roy Wayne Burdine

(Oct. 2, 1925 - Oct. 23, 2010)Roy Wayne Burdine died on the early morning of Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010, at the Powell Valley Care Center. He was 85.

He was born in 1925 in the home of his parents in Rock City, Ky., where he was the oldest of the boys and had three sisters.

They all then relocated by covered wagon to Indiana. At age 17, he joined the U.S. Navy for four years and fought at Pearl Harbor, becoming a World War II veteran. Ater the war, he re-enlisted in the United States Marines, where he gave his country another four years.

In 1951, he married his wife, Faith Joy Townsend of Indiana. He then raised two daughters, Darlene Spillan of Powell and Waynetta Kirby of Jacksonville, Fla.

He is survived by three grandchildren, Charity and Rick Capshaw of Powell and Shannon Cadet of Paris, Tenn.; and eight great-grandchildren, Catrina Wagner, Pandora, Drake and Ares Capshaw, Caleb, Shawn, Jaylen and Alana Cadet.

He was loved and will be missed, but his family knows he will be waiting with his wife at the Tree of Life.

No memorial services are planned. Burial will take place in Indiana in the spring.
