Mel Harvey

(June 21, 1931 - Oct. 15, 2010)Melvel Gutke Harvey, 79, was born June 21, 1931 in Cowley, to Luther and Julia Harvey. He died from complications of pneumonia Oct. 15, 2010 in Billings.

After serving three years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict, he returned home and married Lillian Stone April 27, 1955. They later divorced. Born to this union was one daughter, Sharon.

Mel worked construction as a heavy equipment operator most of his working life in Wyoming and Nevada. The last several years he worked for GK Construction in the Lovell area in the bentonite mines.

Mel actively participated in the V.F.W. in Cody where he had many friends.

He loved to share a good story and he loved to dance.

He is survived by his daughter Sharon (Barry) Burkinshaw of Sandy, Utah; granddaughter Jade Anderson of Las Vegas, Nev.; brothers Glen and Pete of Byron and many nieces and nephews.

Mel was preceded in death by brothers Wilber, Fred, Cal, Clyde, Don, Ed and sister Leila Johnson.

Graveside services were held in the Cowley cemetery Oct. 19 and a celebration of life followed at the Byron Bar.

Haskell's Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
