(Sept. 26, 1947-Oct. 12, 2010)Gary L. Roden, 63, of Powell passed away Oct. 12, after a very courageous battle with cancer.

Gary was born in Riverton, Wy., September 26,1947 to Raymond & Velma Roden. He attended school in Pavillion and was an avid basketball star. He graduated from high school and attended Northwest College. Shortly after attending college he went to work for Marathon Oil Co., where he would dedicate the next 40 years of his career with them. Gary was highly regarded β€œin the field.”

In 1972, Gary met and married Dawn LaFollette and together they raised two sons, Rick and Scott. Gary loved his family very much and was a wonderful role model. He enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, who were the light of his life. He had a passion for animals and enjoyed several pets over the years. Gary had a heart of gold and enjoyed helping others; he would do anything for anyone. He always kept a nice yard and enjoyed mowing for his neighbors as well. He loved watching old western movies, especially fond of John Wayne. In his spare time he also enjoyed woodworking.

Gary is preceded in death by both of his parents, all six of his siblings, and his wife, Dawnie, who passed away in 2008.

Gary's laugh and his sense of humor will be sorely missed, but never forgotten. A special thanks to Darlene Woodruff, a dear friend of Gary's and the family. Also, to Dr. and Mrs. Mike Tracy for the exceptional care.

Gary is survived by his sons; Rick Clifton (Lisa) of Nine Mile Falls, Wash, and Scott Roden of Powell; three grandchildren, Nikkole and Jadyn Clifton and Dillon Roden; and sister-in-law Tina (Mike) Heny.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, Oct. 18, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Crown Hill Cemetery in Powell. There will be a visitation immediately preceding the service from 9:30 – 10:45 a.m. at Thompson Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
