James L. Fleming of Powell died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010 at St. Vincent's Hospital in Billings. He was 73.

James was born in Powell Jan. 12, 1937 to John and Eva Dee (Beers) Fleming. He attended college for a year and married Willa N. Burgener on Dec. 27, 1957, in Powell. They moved to Oak Harbor, Wash., where James pursued his military career. He was stationed at NAS Whidbey Island, Wash.; NAS Alameda, Calif.; on the USS Ranger CVA; NAS Kodiak, Alaska; NAS Pt. Mugu, Calif., and NAS San Nickolas Island, Calif. He retired from San Nickolas Island on Oct. 15, 1974.

After the Navy, James drove a semi-truck for many years.

James was a member of the VFW and loved to go fishing and work in his garden, where he grew Big Daddy onions.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Tom and nephew, Phil Jr.

James is survived by his wife, Willa, sons James S. Fleming (Joy); Robert M. Fleming; daughter Kathy L. Gallant (John) and five grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place and burial will be held at a later date.
