(Sept. 16, 1941 - Oct. 5, 2010)Carole J. Howell of Powell died from small cell lung cancer Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010 in Billings. She was had just turned 69.
Carole was born on Sept. 16, 1941 to Edmund and Lillian (Jablonski) Groncezwski.
She married and deeply devoted to Jim Howell in Powell, and celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary in May.
Carole loved to garden and had a beautiful oasis that was her backyard. She also enjoyed fishing, hunting and walking. She is probably best remembered in town for her frequent walks with her dog Rowdy in his baby carriage. Rowdy recently passed away, but they will be reuntied at her burial.
Carole was retired and worked at the Powell Senior Center, helping out and serving in various ways. The ladies there spoke of her hard work ethic and her penchant for cleanly mopped floors.
She attended the Catholic church on a regular basis and often walked to daily Mass.
Carole had a fun, quirky sense of humor, as demonstrated by her constantly playing jokes on her friends and co-workers. Her friends and family will always rember her special looks or a raised eyebrow, indicating that you might be in trouble, or just a co-conspirator in a prank. Carole was loved by many people for her generosity, caring, readiness with a kind word, shoulder to cry on or assistance. Carole was willing to listen to her friends' problems and helped those around her with anything they needed.
Carole will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edmund and Lillian; and sister, Dee Ciske.
She is survived by her husband, James O. Howell; daughter Denise Allen (Mark) of Parker, Colo.; and son Greg Palmersheim of Wittman, Ariz.; stepchildren Justin Howell of Virginia and Kim Howell of Whitehall, Mont.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 11 at St. Barbara's Catholic Church, with Father John Patterson officiating. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 10 at Thomspon Funeral Home.
Memorials may be sent in her name to the American Lung Association or Powell Valley Hospice.
