Evelyn Weber Asay, 76, of Ralston, died peacefully Dec. 16, 2017, in Cody at the West Park Long Term Care Center.

Evelyn was born in Cheyenne, Jan. 30, 1941, to John and Gladys Weber. Her early years were spent at the Historic Kite Ranch 25 miles east of Rock River, where she was homeschooled by her mom. When she was in the sixth grade the family moved to Lander where she attended public school for the first time.

Evelyn spent her youth working in the hay field with her dad, riding horses and fishing. She enjoyed horseback riding, 4-H, marching band and baton. She was crowned Pioneer Days Rodeo queen June 3, 1956. After graduating high school in 1959, she worked as a telephone operator for Mountain Bell.

She met her former husband, the late Jerry Asay, in Lander. The couple eventually moved to Cody where they raised their six children and established and ran Northwest Electric and Northwest Outfitters as well as their family farm northeast of Cody.  She moved back to Lander in 1980, and eventually moved to Ralston in 2008.

She was a talented seamstress, bookkeeper, and member of the Catholic Church. She attended the Table Mountain Extension Club and Our Lady’ prayer group in Lander. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend and will be forever missed and remembered by all who knew her.

She is survived by her children, son Mike Asay of Powell; daughters Kathy Shaffer of Ralston, Karen (Bill) Waltz of Powell and Kristi (Nathan) Harder of Powell; son Monte Asay of Burns; 22 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; siblings, Peggy (Gary) McColl of Cody, Ron (Becki) Weber of Shoshoni, Dale Weber of Riverton, Jack (Pat) Weber and Roseva (Glenn) Van Patten, both of Jackson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Corky, and son, Mark Douglas, a daughter Kim Foster, daughter-in-law Kim Asay and son-in-law Steve Shaffer.

Rosary and viewing will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 22, followed by the funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Cody. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, and luncheon will be served immediately following at the church.
