Peggy Power, 67, of Cody, died at home on Aug. 1, 2017.

Peggy was born on Sept. 4, 1949, in Flagler, Colorado, to William and Velma Schoening, the youngest of seven children. The family moved to Cody in 1956, where Peggy graduated from Cody High School.

In school, she met this young punk named Tim Power. He was one of the bad boys in school with one of the coolest cars in town. They fell in love and were married on Jan. 1, 1968.

Tim and Peggy moved to California, where Tim finished mortuary science school. Upon graduation, the young couple moved back to Cody and she worked as a bookkeeper for Husky Oil while Tim worked with Dan Ballard. Being a funeral director’s wife is no easy task. Peggy was always supportive, patient, and loving as Tim spent many hours serving the community through the funeral home and ambulance service.

Peggy and Tim bought Ballard Funeral Home in 1987, and Peggy quickly became the foundation of the business. She was an intricate part of the everyday operations, from organizing service details, to keeping immaculate office records; Peggy helped provide comfort to countless grieving families.

Peggy and Tim were blessed to raise their two children, Mike and Shelley. Peggy was the best mom anybody could ask for. However, when she became a grandma, she became the ultimate grandma and deeply loved her grandchildren. Peggy traveled tens of thousands of miles to be part of their functions, supporting them in every way.

Peggy was an avid collector of antiques, including many rare China dolls and historic dresses from Buffalo Bill’s family. She was an amazing cook and her kitchen was the epicenter of many holiday meals.

She leaves behind her husband Tim Power of Cody; son Michael (Amber) Power of Cody; daughter Shelley (Todd) Nalder of Cheyenne, and grandchildren Jessica, Bethany, Nathan, Dylan, Aiden, and Addison. She is also survived by her brother Larry (Barb) Schoening, and sister-in-law Carrol Schoening, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her siblings Joyce Marie, Bob, William, Jack and Jenner.

Peggy’s funeral service was held on Friday, Aug. 4, at Ballard Funeral Home. Condolences to the family may be sent through Peggy’s memorial page at www.BallardFH.com.
