John R Peterson, better known as Jack, died peacefully at his home on July 17, 2017. He was 92.

He was born on Feb. 20, 1925, in Cody.

Jack was raised in the upper South Fork Valley. He graduated from Cody High School and enlisted in the United States Navy where he served until the end of World War II.

Jack returned to Cody and married Susan Littleton. He and Susan had met on the South Fork when the Littletons discovered the majesty of the valley and moved there from Long Island, New York.

For almost 50 years, Jack and Sue loved life together in Cody. They raised four children and spent all their free time in the mountains.

Sue preceded Jack in death in 1994. Together, they left a strong legacy of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who cherish this place and the values of living right and well.

Jack and Sue’s family are Doug and Sheila Peterson and children, Kelly, Keri, John R, and Shannon, and eight great-grandchildren; Shirley and Harry Lehman and children, Ryan, Josh and Zach, and five great-grandchildren; Diann and Chris Trolle and daughter, Susan; Nancy and Jim Cory and children, Chris and Marion, and one great-grandchild.

Jack and Sue’s family hold their heritage dear and thank God for all the treasures of life given to them by their parents.

Graveside services for Jack will be Thursday, July 20, at 3:30 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery.
