Edward M. Criss died June 22, 2017. He was 85.

He was living in Billings at the time of his passing, and had lived in Powell for over 20 years.

He is survived by his sister, Wilma Cutrell, and his son, Michael Criss.

Edward was born Sept. 5, 1931, in Uva, Wyoming. He graduated from Wheatland High School in 1949, and attended the University of Wyoming for two years. Before graduating from high school, he achieved his pilot’s license.

After two years at the university, Edward joined the Naval cadet program. After receiving his wings, he became a Marine Corps fighter pilot. When he was discharged from the military, Edward was able to get a job working for TWA in April 1956. He remained at TWA until his retirement in October 1987.

While at TWA, he became a captain and flew many types of large aircraft, such as the 747 and the Lockheed L-1011. He also remained very active in general aviation, owning several of his own airplanes and using them to get to his other love of hunting and fishing. He even built his own airplane and flew it.

A celebration of life will be held, but no date has been set yet.
