Mollie Shepherd, 92, died June 20, 2017, at the West Park Hospital Long Term Care Center in Cody.

She was born May 22, 1925, in Severance, Colorado, to Fredrick and Katherine (Foos) Martin, who were both Russian immigrants.

As a teenager, she worked at the soda fountain at Pioneer Pharmacy, where she met David Shepherd. They married on July 26, 1943, in Wheatland. Two sons, James and John, were born in Platte County.

The family moved to Cody when David accepted a job with Texaco in 1948. Four more children, Gary, Dennis, Debbie, and Connie, completed their family.

She was a wonderful mother who enjoyed canning, baking and gardening.

Mollie learned to drive in her 30s and restarted her career of serving people, working as a waitress at Craig’s Cafe, and then at Woolworths. After working as a cook for Cody schools, she left to run Husky Oil’s cafeteria, which eventually became Marathon Oil’s cafeteria. Mollie retired after 14 years. Many people still reminisce about the yummy homemade food she and her sister, Katherine, served with a smile.

She was an active 4-H leader, attended Extension Club, Rebekah’s, TOPS, and participated in the VFW and Eagles auxiliaries, recently earning her 45-year pin from the Eagles.

In retirement, Mollie loved to travel. She continued gardening and won the largest pumpkin award from Mr. D’s.

Family gatherings with her children, grandchildren and siblings were treasured. Mollie especially enjoyed playing cards with friends.

Mollie is survived by four sons, James (Ginger) Shepherd of Cody, John (Sandy) Shepherd of Wichita, Kansas, Gary (Phyllis) Shepherd of Powell, and Dennis (Lisa) Shepherd of Cody; two daughters, Debbie (Jerry) Boydston and Connie (Greg) Shepherd, both of Cody; 12 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Her remaining brothers and sisters, Fred, Bob, Katherine, and Ruth, will miss her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David; faithful companion, Tony Scheiber; parents; and siblings, Lydia, Bertha, Annie, Lorraine, Walt and Howard.

Donations in her memory can be made to either Cody Senior Center card playing group, hospice house, or long-term care in Cody.

Funeral services will be held at Ballard Funeral Home on Friday, June 23, at 2 p.m. with committal services to follow at Riverside Cemetery.
