Irvin Lloyd Denman, formerly of Powell, died peacefully in his sleep from complications of a stroke on May 27, 2017, in Cedar City, Utah. He was 78.
He was born on Dec. 17, 1938, to Bessie Cleo Scott and Elmer Sanford Denman. The youngest of seven children, Irvin was raised around the San Francisco Peaks in Flagstaff, Arizona. From there, he moved to Milton Freewater, Oregon, where he attended grade school. Irvin graduated from Peoria High School in Peoria, Arizona, in 1957.
Shortly after graduation, he married Kathy Price. There were four children born to this union — Michael, Richard, Susan and Cheryl Denman.
They were later divorced and Irvin moved to Wyoming to do construction work. He met and married Diane Wollam on June 27, 1971, in Powell. They had two children, Troy and Scott Denman, and were later divorced.
He married Jo Gilpin on Nov. 15, 1977, and they were later divorced.
He met Patricia Benson in Powell, and they were married in February 1986.
Over the years, Irvin worked construction, building homes. He was a pioneer in the solar panel industry. He was a miner and a prospector and spent time in Alaska prospecting for gold. Irvin also owned and operated “Basement Watersealers” in Powell.
His CB handle was “Laughing Boy.”
Irvin loved food, sharing meals and gathering with people. He was generous and always willing to share his home with those in need. He loved the country and spent his life camping, fishing and hunting. His primary concern was making people smile and laugh, always telling jokes. Irvin was eager to share the good news of Jesus with everyone he met. He went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ and prays that all would meet him on the other side in the Promised Land.
He lived in Washington, Wyoming, Nebraska, Utah and Arizona. Irvin and Patricia moved back to Cedar City, Utah, in 2013 to be close to his son, Troy Denman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bessie Cleo Scott and Elmer Sanford Denman; sisters Louise Haga, Leona Morgan, Merle Frances Grassi; brothers Oliver Denman, Claude Denman, and Willard Denman.
Memorial services were held on June 13 at True Life Center Foursquare Church in Cedar City, Utah.
