Roy W. Brazelton, 91, died May 27, 2017.

He was born on March 25, 1926, to Roy E. and Gertrude Brazelton in Worland. Roy was one of 10 children, and all have preceded him in death.

Roy grew up in Worland, attending school through the eighth grade. Then he went to Billings, where he went to work as a showman for livestock.

After coming back to Wyoming, Roy joined the U.S. Army and was inducted in October 1944. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign in the Philippine Liberation. Roy served three years and was honorably discharged as a tech sergeant on Nov. 24, 1946. Roy earned many medals, including a Combat Infantryman Badge, a Bronze Star, Army of Occupation Medal, Good Conduct Medal and a World War II Victory Medal. Out of his infantry that went to Japan, only nine men returned. Roy was a true patriot to his country.

Upon being discharged from the Army, Roy went to work for Marathon Company.  He retired from Marathon after 38 years.

Roy married Gwen Warner on April 17, 1947. They had two children, Roy Thomas and Vera Kay. Gwen died in May 1992 of breast cancer. Roy took care of Gwen faithfully until her death.

Roy married Eva Fern Parkins on Feb. 14, 1993. They blended their two families, adding Lawrence Alfred and Guy Robert as stepsons, along with their families.

Roy’s hobbies included hunting, fishing and camping on the Big Horn Mountains. Roy was a life member of VFW Post 2673.

Roy is survived by his wife Eva; son Roy Thomas (Gloria) of Powell; daughter Vera Kay of Powell; stepson Lawrence Alfred Parkins (Linda) of Cody; and step-daughter-in-law Susan Parkins of Cheyenne. He has eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 2, at Ballard Funeral Home in Cody, with graveside honors at Riverside Cemetery and a luncheon to follow at the VFW. Memorial donations in Roy’s honor can be made to the VFW or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
