Tolbert Dean Carter died on May 11, 2017, in Powell, at the age of 74.

Tolbert was born in Wichita, Kansas, on July 10, 1942, as a twin. He bragged about being four minutes older than his twin brother. He was the son of Jean B. and Jewel Carter.

Tolbert’s family moved to Wyoming in 1954 where Tolbert attended school. Tolbert and his twin Ronald joined the Navy in 1960 serving four years in the Cuban Crisis, Formosa (Taiwan), Thailand, Hong Kong and Vietnam.  When Tolbert and his twin got out of the Navy they moved to Seattle, Washington and worked at Boeing.

While living in Seattle, Tolbert met his lifetime soulmate and wife of 50 years, Paula Jensen Carter. They moved back to Powell to make their home. In 1973 along came daughter Jennifer, and sons Yancy in 1974 and Zachary in 1979. 

Tolbert was preceded in death by his dad Jean B. Carter. 

He leaves behind his wife Paula, daughter Jennifer (Shaun) Cole, Yancy (Jessica) Carter, and Zachary (Bobbie) Carter; grandkids, Raymond, Weston, Zyan, Shelby, Jaxson and Dusty; his mother, Jewel Carter; brothers, Ronald (Helen) Carter, Rodger (Karen) Carter, Jon (Gael) Carter and sister Julie (Norm) Altman.

Tolbert loved his family dearly and all their friends. He embraced life and would help anyone who needed it. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Tolbert was a legend.

Celebration of life will be at the First United Methodist Church in Powell, on Thursday, May 18, at 10:30 a.m., followed by military honors ceremony at Crown Hill Cemetery and continuation of celebration of life at the Mountain View Clubhouse around 1:30 p.m.
