James William Yockey, of Meeteetse, died at home April 4, 2017, under the care of Spirit Mountain Hospice of Cody. He was 93.
James was born Feb. 16, 1924, in Loveland, Colorado, to Charles H. and May Rosanna Yockey. He was the youngest of nine children.
As a young man James was known to be a charmer and a good dancer who liked to accompany four sisters, known as the Partridge girls, to local dances. One thing led to another, and he married Elsie Partridge in May 1946. Their family expanded with the births of Jim, Jan, Annette and Judy. James and Elsie spent 67 years together before Elsie’s death in 2013.
James and Elsie moved to Meeteetse in 1994, to be near family and in the mountains that he loved, after retiring in Fort Collins, Colorado. James instilled a love for Wyoming in his entire family and a respect for what God created. He taught his children to work hard, be a friend, serve others, and most of all, love your family.
After their move to Meeteetse, James and Elsie made wonderful friends through their church and the senior center. He was loved by his family and friends and will be missed by many.
James is survived by his children: Jim (June) Yockey, Jan and Annette, all of Meeteetse; Judy and husband Art of Charlottesville, Virginia; grandchildren: Jeffrey Hayes (Julie), Tom Marsh (Tara), Shane (Katie), Jason (Jennifer) and Justin Yockey, Todd and Dave Lyons, Lani (Keith) Crume, Alyssa (Tim) Thornton, and Nathan (Catherine) Weltman.
He is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of James’ life will be held this summer when the grass is green and the fish are biting. There will be a memorial service in the next few days with time and place to be announced later in the week.
