Michael Alan Brodrick of Red Lodge, Montana, died on Wednesday, March 8. He was 74.
Mike, as he was known to most, was born on Dec. 13, 1942 in Seattle, Washington. He was the elder son of Gordon and Esther Brodrick.
He grew up in Lander and Powell, and graduated from Powell High School. Mike went on to earn a bachelor’s degree at the University of Wyoming, during which time he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant via the Air Force ROTC program. Mike served in Vietnam from 1965 to 1971, completing 120 combat missions and retiring at the rank of captain.
After earning his MBA from the University of Southern California, Mike spent his civilian career working for several large companies, specializing in human resources. In 1999 he retired to Red Lodge.
Continuing the family legacy, Mike served on the Northwest College Foundation Board from 2005-2014. He was a member of the Investment Committee and he dedicated his time to stewarding the foundation’s permanent assets. Mike’s father, Gordon Brodrick, was a founding member of the board in 1966. Mike’s mother, Esther Brodrick, assumed Gordon’s seat when he passed away and Mike stepped into that same position when Esther died.
In 2005 Mike established The Mike Brodrick Library Acquisition Endowment to provide financial support for Northwest College’s library. The fund is used for the acquisition of academic books, journals, musical scores and audio-visual materials of an academic nature.
He is survived by his daughter, Stacy, and her husband, David, of Tucson, Arizona; his daughter, Shannon, and her husband, Jim, of Annandale, New Jersey; and five grandchildren: Brian, Allie, Billy, Megan and Katie.
As were his wishes, no funeral service is planned. His ashes will be scattered around Rock Creek, near Red Lodge, in a private family memorial service.
